The Water Festival -San Roque – Vilagarcía de Arousa

On August 16 Vilagarcía de Arousa celebrates its patron saint ‘fiestas’ in honour of San Roque. Immediately after a religious ceremony on which people move the statue of the saint to the sound of a typical ‘pasodoble’, the water festival starts. For aproximately three hours water-hydrants, buckets, sprayers, water pistols, hoses and fire engines are used to throw water into the crowd.
