Since the Nineteenth Century an annual festival in honour to the Virgin of the Castle of Yecla has been celebrated, it is called The Virgin Festival. On the 8th of December the statue of the virgin is taking down from the Sanctuary accompanied by the arquebusiers (soldiers who use old firearms which are fired by lighting a fuse of gunpowder).
