On the 21st of September, feast day of San Mateo, the First Wine Harvest is celebrated in Logroño, the capital city of the Rioja Wine Region. Grapes are pressed by barefoot men, following the traditional way, in order to offer the first must to the patron saint of la Rioja, Our Lady of Valvanera.
Gastronomic tastings, bullfights, San Mateo “pelota” tournament, concerts, live music, theatre, a lot of events take place during the week that last this festival.
