Los Escobazos (The Large Brooms)

Every year on the 7th of December, several hours before the procession of the Virgin of the Conception begins, local people and visitors meet in the main square of Jarandilla de la Vera carrying lit brooms. It is known as Los Escobazos Festival. The only way not to be knocked is carrying one of them, so better going armed with a burning broom than trying continuously to escape the fire.
