The Madrid Gay Pride is the largest supported event for the LGBT community in Spain, being considered one of the best in the world and the biggest in Europe. It attracts an ever-increasing number of people from all over the world.
The parade is the main event of the Pride Festival (on the Saturday after June 28). However, concerts, parties, sporting and cultural events are spread over the city during the days that the Pride lasts.
A bit of history
This movement started in the neighbourhood of Chueca in the 70s and it was in the 1978 when the first demonstration was held. Little by little the Gay Pride movement was spreading all over the city, but Chueca kept its position as the LGBT district par excellence.
It was in 1997 when the first floats were included in the march, on which semi-naked men and women dance to music.
Madrid Gay Pride was awarded in two occasions the “Best Gay Event in the World” and chosen to host the World Pride 2017.
